How the track and facilities are cleared of snow
Every year between mid-May and mid-June, up to 20 volunteers work every day for three to four weeks to clear the snow from the tracks, erect the Steffenbach bridge, winterise the buildings and ancillary facilities, and install the points and safety systems. Clearing the snow and preparing the railway facilities for the operating season, which starts towards the end of June, takes around 350 to 450 man and woman days every year. The masses of snow and the latent danger of avalanches demand everything from the volunteers and machines.
