The Realp depot is the heart of the Furka Mountain Steam Railway. Here, the power of bygone times rests – and comes back to life every morning. When the fire is lit in the steam locomotives, the hall fills with warmth, steam and the unmistakable smell of coal and oil.

Our depot guides take you on a fascinating journey of discovery through the locomotive depot and carriage shed. You come face to face with the mighty steam engines, learn how they are supplied with coal and water, and feel how much passion and craftsmanship goes into every detail.

A special gem awaits you in the carriage shed: the refurbished and fully functional Xrotd R12 steam snow blower – a silent witness to the forces that once cleared the snow from the mountain route.

A depot tour is more than just a look behind the scenes – it is a journey back in time to the era of steam. Ideal as an addition to a steam train ride, for club and company outings, or simply for anyone who wants to experience steam, technology and history with all their senses.
